Board of Directors, Committee, Professional Advisory Board and Local Positions

California Hands & Voices is looking for diverse* individuals who have a strong passion for our mission** who are interested in contributing their time and talent to our board of directors, committees, locally or as a professional advisory member. Our team is made up of parents of children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing, professionals who work in the field and individuals who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Our by-laws require that parents of children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing make up a majority of our board.

  • Family Engagement (Events, Workshops/Presentations)
  • Family Services (Mentorship, Outreach Liaison w/ diverse Stakeholders, ASTra) 
  • Communication (Newsletter, Social Media, Membership, Technical Support, Translation of Materials)
  • Governance (Board Policies and Procedures, Board Recruitment and Training)
  • Finance (Budget and Finance Policies, Decisions and Procedures)
  • Grant Writing & Fundraising (Operations, Local and Statewide funding)

Regional Representatives

  • Region 1 – Humboldt, Del Norte, Lake, Mendocino, Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, Lassen, Modoc Plumas, Sierra
  • Region 3 – Napa, Solano, Sonoma, Marin, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo
  • Region 4 – Santa Clara, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Monterey
  • Region 5 – Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo
  • Region 6 – Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Fresno, King, Inyo, Mono, Tulare, Kern
  • Region 9 – Riverside, San Bernardino

Board Secretary

The Secretary shall oversee and maintain accurate minutes of all meetings of the members of the board. The Secretary shall be custodian of the organization’s documents, correspondence, and records; he/she shall prepare all correspondence on behalf of the organization; and shall perform from time to time other such duties as the Board or the President may direct. The duty of recording minutes at Board meetings can be delegated.

**Mission:  California Hands & Voices is dedicated to supporting families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in a respectful and non-judgmental manner regarding language opportunities, communication tools or educational approaches. We’re a parent-driven, non-profit organization providing families with the resources, networks, and information to improve communication access and educational outcomes for their children. Our outreach activities, parent/professional collaboration, and advocacy efforts are focused on enabling children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing to reach their highest potential.
