Hands & Voices Post-Secondary Transition On-Line Module for Parents and Their Teens

Post-Secondary Transition begins no later than the year a student turns 16 as defined by IDEA. Per IDEA, transition is designed to be a results-oriented process that is focused on improving the academic and functional achievement of the student to facilitate movement from school to life after high school. This may include; further education, employment, and/or independent living.

  • Leadership Opportunities for Teens (LOFT)
    LOFT is for high school students who are deaf and hard of hearing and use listening and spoken language and their primary mode of communication. This four-day sleep-away program is designed for participants to develop or strengthen skills in individual leadership, teamwork, group dynamics, public speaking, and self-advocacy.

    The Junior NAD, a program of the NAD, offers deaf and hard of hearing students in 7th through 12th grade opportunities to develop leadership skills, learn and demonstrate citizenship, and meet and interact with students from other schools and states.
  • National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID)
    The National Technical Institute for the Deaf is one of the nine colleges of Rochester Institute of Technology, a leading career-oriented, technological university. The mission of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf is to provide deaf and hard-of-hearing students with outstanding state-of-the-art technical and professional education programs, complemented by a strong arts and sciences curriculum, that prepare them to live and work in the mainstream of a rapidly changing global community and enhance their lifelong learning.
  • California State University, Northridge
    If you’re deaf or hard of hearing and are interested in learning more about the programs and services offered at CSUN, please contact National Center on Deafness at . The NCOD provides communication access, leadership opportunities, scholarships and direct communication classes for approximately 200 students who are deaf and hard of hearing each year. Registering with the National Center on Deafness allows students to receive services such as interpreting, speech-to-text transcription, note taking, tutoring and academic advisement.
