Observe, Understand & Respond: the O.U.R. Children’s Safety Project

Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing face a higher risk of abuse and neglect, especially when communication barriers exist. This project, led by Hands & Voices in collaboration with researcher Harold Johnson, focuses on helping families and professionals Observe, Understand, and Respond to keep children safe.

The initiative also encourages families to:

• Learn and share resources
• Talk openly with their children
• Engage with professionals about child safety
• Spread awareness within their communities

Even protecting one child or supporting one family makes a meaningful difference.
